Mike Haynes is a Heritage Management Specialist who has been based in South East Asia since 2003. He has worked with a wide range of integrated tourism and development projects throughout the region for organisations including GIZ, ICIMOD, MIID, IUCN, UNWTO, WWF and FFI. In Myanmar he was Team Leader for the Destination Management Plan of the Inlay Lake Region, Myanmar’s first comprehensive Destination Management Plan in association with the Myanmar Ministry of Hotels and Tourism. He is currently working on projects to promote the development of community-focused Heritage Trails and the promotion of Sustainable Development of the Hospitality and Tourism sectors in Shan State with GIZ, the Myanmar Tourism Federation and the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism. He is also a researcher with Newcastle University in the UK and a professional member of the Association for Heritage Interpretation.
