Maaike de Lange works with Swisscontact since November 2013 as international advisor for tourism destination development and management. For the largest part of her professional work over the past 10 years in the Lao PDR she has worked on pro-poor sustainable tourism development, facilitating change towards more environmentally, economically and socially responsible tourism practices.
Maaike has a strong track-record in project-cycle management (PCM) processes and tools, in-depth expertise in capacity and organisational development of public and private sector actors, as well as hands on experience with participatory and multi-stakeholder approaches.
Maaike worked for more than 6 years with the SNV Netherlands Development Organisation in the tourism sector in Lao PDR and developed, amongst other things, a programme to coach and build up Young Lao Development Professional, many of which have now become crucial staff members of international development organisation in Lao PDR. The connection with people, the embarkation on a joint journey and the unlocking of people’s inherent potential is what motivates Maaike in her work.
Maaike holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration in Hotel Management from the Hotel school The Hague, International School for Hotel Management. In addition she followed the Sustainable Tourism Development programme at the NHTV Breda, University of Applied Sciences. Maaike is fluent in Dutch, English and French and has good basic Lao skills.
